SEACOAST SAPPHOS IS CELEBRATING ITS 10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN FEBRUARY 2012 AS A VIABLE WOMEN’S SOCIAL GROUP  PROVIDING AND PARTICIPATING IN FUNCTIONS FROM PORTSMOUTH, NH TO PORTLAND, MAINE!

DID YOU KNOW…………THESE FACTS ABOUT SEACOAST SAPPHOS?

On September 21, 2002 about 16 women gathered in a private home in Ogunquit, Maine to spearhead a women’s social group.

A group called Seacoast Sapphos was formally organized and a logo was developed by Deborah G. “signifying three dancing women” in 2003.

In fall of 2003, Seacoast Sapphos became a recognized social, not for profit organization with State of Maine and during the same year Pat G. was voted in as our first president.  She held office until 2006 when she moved to Arizona.  A subsequent President was voted in.

SS first monthly newsletter was issued in 2003 called Sapphos News and it was later renamed Sapphos Star in October 2006.

The SS By-Laws were adopted in 2004 and amended in June 2007.

Seacoast Sapphos’ newly designed website www.seacoastsapphos.org was launched at the end of 2006 by Laurie O. SS website receives over 75,000 hits per year.

In 2009, SS participated in its first Boston Gay Pride Parade.

Currently, SS holds the following events:  Five dances in Portsmouth, NH; Annual BBQ in June; two Games Socials; Participating in a Gay Pride Parade; two kayaking events; and Holiday Party (and some years, there are more events).  In addition, for the last six years, SS donates over 55 Holiday Gift Bags, at Christmas time, to women in the Portsmouth area without financial means or family to help them during the holiday season.

We thank our membership and officers/steering committee (past/present) for making the above happen! Seacoast Sapphos will be celebrating its 10th year in providing a social network for women in the seacoast area.
